The Tsogttsetsii soum landfill reshaped, cleaned and reduced in area
The environmental team of the Sustainable Development Policy Department of Energy Resources has completed, in phases, work to reduce the area occupied by the landfill that had spread over many years in Tsogttsetsii soum, clear up windblown waste, disinfect and bury the wastewater discharge points and cover them with topsoil.
Reducing the spread of this landfill reduces the pollution affecting people’s health and the environment. The Company plans not only to carry out this landfill work but also to organise training and awareness activities among all local residents in order to reduce waste generation, sort waste correctly, recycle and reuse it and build the right habits.
The area covered by the landfill was originally around 8 ha in total and has now been reduced to 1.2 ha, with a total of 15,000 m3 of waste collected and covered with 8,000 m3 of topsoil. Next year measures will be taken to bury it completely and plant it over.
