Within the Ukhaa Khudag mine, which began operations in 2009, many infrastructure projects have been delivered: Mongolia’s first coal washing plant, an 18 MW power plant built by Mongolian engineers, a water supply system, a 245 km paved road and a housing district.

The President expresses pride in the Ukhaa Khudag development

Distinctively, all the development work is being done by Mongolians themselves, drawing on best international practice. At present almost 3,000 domestic employees and more than 650 companies and enterprises are taking part in this work. The President expressed his satisfaction that development around the mine had been created in a short time by Mongolia’s own efforts.

- Ts. Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia: Seeing the Ukhaa Khudag development leaves a very fine impression. I am glad to see that Mongolians, enjoying the benefits of their democratic society and using their freedom to do business and their open opportunities, have reached a level where they can achieve so much. In general I believe the right course is for the state to support and give impetus to work that is succeeding and being accomplished. I am truly proud to see many thousands of Mongolians, many thousands of young people, taking part in this development and contributing to the progress of their country.
