Highest coal prices in 2017 and a fourfold increase in sales revenue
On 22 March 2018 Mongolian Mining Corporation, or Energy Resources, formally presented its audited financial and operational results for 2017 to the public.
Last year the Company mined 8.3 million tonnes of coal, processed 8 million tonnes domestically and exported a total of 4.4 million tonnes of washed coal products. Of that, 3.6 million tonnes were washed coking coal and 0.8 million tonnes washed thermal coal.
Last year the Company raised the average price of one tonne of washed coking coal to $130.3, an increase of around 70 per cent on the 2016 level, so that total sales revenue reached $476 million — almost four times the figure in the 2016 financial statements.
The report also shows that the Company’s financial indicators improved considerably in 2017. Total profit for the year was $202.6 million, while the successful debt restructuring brought total net profit to $310 million, or around ₮760 billion. Energy Resources is currently the only enterprise in Mongolia that processes coal domestically and exports it as a washed product.
