As a national mining company that operates to international standards, Energy Resources pays particular attention to responsible mining and, within it, to water management. Taking full account of the natural conditions of the water-scarce Gobi, it operates smart, advanced water supply systems for industrial and domestic use. The Ukhaa Khudag power plant alone uses technology that consumes four to five times less water than conventional power plants. Next to the coal washing plant, a tailings dewatering plant recovers water from the slurry, raising water recycling to 95%. This year, collecting the water left by heavy flooding in the Gobi using technological methods and settling out the silt so that it can be reused in production was rightly recognised as an innovative initiative.
