At this event, major global companies that apply best practice in corporate social responsibility compete with their best projects and programmes, and Energy Resources has now represented Mongolia successfully for the third time.

In making the selection, the judges consider a company’s compliance with laws and regulations and its financial capacity, but focus mainly on whether it is delivering long-term projects and programmes with real benefit to society. Compared with previous years, this year was notable for the participation of world-leading companies such as Coca-Cola, Samsung, L’Oreal and Bridgestone, as well as leaders in the finance, mining and heavy industry sectors of South-East Asia.

Energy Resources applies best practice in corporate social responsibility in Mongolia’s mining sector. Since operations began in 2009 it has delivered more than 50 long-term projects across five main areas. Among the most notable, in Tsogttsetsii soum, Umnugobi aimag, it has provided social infrastructure such as a housing district and a school and kindergarten as an integrated complex, and has delivered long-term projects and programmes to employ local women and give them mining qualifications. The Company has taken the initiative and worked actively to amend and update the relevant laws and regulations in order to increase women’s participation in the mining sector, and this initiative — which can be called a first not only in Mongolia but in the South-East Asian region — has now received this high international recognition.
