Container terminal handed over

185 on establishing container terminals at border crossings and in border zones and strips, in order to accelerate coal exports and increase the throughput capacity of border crossings under public-private partnership, was approved in July this year.

Under the resolution, our Company worked with the state as the contractor for the project to build an additional container terminal at Gashuunsukhait, the main channel for coal exports, completing the terminal on a total of 30 ha within two months and handing it over to the state commission. Our Company shared responsibility for financing the construction of the terminal with “Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi” JSC and “Tavantolgoi” JSC.

During a visit to Umnugobi aimag by the Prime Minister of Mongolia, L. Oyun-Erdene, together with sector ministers, to see the progress of the project, he thanked our team, saying: “Coal exports have fallen because of the pandemic. We are carrying out a wide range of work to increase exports. Thank you to everyone at Energy Resources for completing one part of that — building the terminal at the Gashuunsukhait border crossing — to a high standard and in a short time, together with the state.”

The container terminal brings a number of benefits: it reduces direct person-to-person contact in border crossing operations, lowers the adverse environmental impact of coal transportation and increases the volume of coal exports.
